Kuzguncuk Oyun Grupları

Oyun, çocuğun olağan gündelik en önemli işidir. Bu etkinliğin içerisinde
her şey yer alabilir.

Katie’nin Mektubu

Selamlar!
I am Katherine and I will lead the play groups this spring. I am very
honored to be a part of the beginnings of the first Waldorf School in
Turkey, as I am sure you are as well!
Now, I want to just tell you a little bit about myself. I am from Chattanooga, Tennessee, and though that part of the United States is not prevalent with Waldorf Schools, I was fortunate enough to attend an alternative elementary school which follows the values and philosophy very similar to that of Steiner education. I can say that it laid the strong foundation for how I approach life learning. Later for university I went to California where I studied International Agriculture; there I not only worked on organic farms, but also with children's garden education
programs. I was first introduced to Waldorf through a farm to school program- the students came to the farm for a day o r even a weekend, and Ihelped lead a variety of activities that dealt with different aspects of nature and farm life. It was a lovely experience that made me wish for such opportunities again.
Little did I know that my next experience with Waldorf would be all the way across the world in Istanbul!
I finished my university degree by coming to Ankara to study and followed it with a life-changing decision to volunteer at Dedetepe Farm in the Kaz Mountains. There I not only dove into the wonderful network of ecological
people and projects happening in Turkey, but most importanly met my husband, Atalay, there! After working together at Dedetepe and taking part in the Buyuk Anadolu Yurusu, we later moved to our land in Olympos,
Antalya. From zero, we created an off-grid life on the land including a wood house and solar energy that powered our electricity and pumped our water from the well. While living in the village, I learned so much but my
favorite hobby was growing medicinal plants and making herbal medicine. We settled there for two years and have just recently come to Istanbul for family matters. We live together with my step-daughter in Icadiye, just up
the hill from the Waldorf School. I spend most of my time now teaching English and taking care of (and learning from) my wonderful step-daughter Mina.
I am very much looking forward to being a part of the Waldorf School here, and I hope to see it flourish and change the way people think about education. I especially am excited about working with you and your young children together- doing projects and activities that enliven our imaginations and creativity bringing us to grow and learn together.

I can't wait to see you all soon at the play group!
All my best to you,
Katherine
